I keep asking questions but I really need to make my mind up here. I am a newbie to SLR's so be gentle.. There are two different offers for the D50. One comes with a 28-80 AF zoom lense and the other offer is a 18-55 AF zoom. Could someone PLEASSSSSE tell me the difference in shooting ranges and anthing else I may need to know. Thanks

The 18-55 is the better choice. With the crop factor, the 28-80 will function as a 42-120 which you may find to be a bit long for indoor and landscape shooting. Also the 28-80 is generally regarded as one of the poorest nikon lenses ever made.

Here's a nice intro site about DSLRs. I read it several times when I first got into DSLRs a few months ago, and it's very helpful.
