i just received my Nikon AF-S DX 55-200 f/4-5.6G and i believe it has an auto-focus issue. this is a Nikon factory refurbished lens with a 90-day warranty. the problem im having is that it will not auto-focus between focal lengths of 105mm thru 200mm. i have tried it outside in bright light and inside under natural lighting and though it tries to find the correct focus(and many times it does) the focus lock light does not light thus i cant take a picture, it simply will not lock on to correct focus in this range. it focuses great from 55mm to 105mm. manual focus shows the glass is great as images are really sharp.

should i send it back under warranty?? or am i missing something? i am shooting with a brand new D40 and the AF 18-55 works perfectly.

i read a few other auto-focus posts but none seem to discuss this. :?

thank you

I would thinkIt should Auto-Focus even at F5.6 with your camera. Itshould tell you in your D40 manual weather auto-focus will function at F5.6. Look it up before you decide to return it.
