Hi, i just picked up a nikon D40 Kit, and am a very happy camper right now.

i was using a Sony H5, and i mainly shoot Family and Sport (mountain biking).

i was wondering which lens would be best for me?

i took the below pictyures with my point and shoot Sony H5:

I want to be able to capture Pictures of this quality and better, these pictures were taking from a Sony H5 PAS cam.

Which budget lens would get these colors and results, i may also need some advice on Shutter Priority for "freezing" the image.

thanks guys!

i was looking at these two lenses:

Zoom Super Wide Angle AF 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G ED-IF AF-S DX

Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S DX

If you want to hold less lenses go for 18-135mm, is pretty sharp and good enough for that budget. Drawbacks is that is not a VR lens so at 135mm performance will not be that sharp. I have used this lens and honestly is pretty decent. Just be aware of the wide angle distortion which is normal to any Nikon lens at this range or even the pro range for zooms which are not that obvious.

The 135mm will give you an advantage over just 70mm in the need for zoom. Since the 18-135mm lens is not that long, when you use the on board flash is pretty ok.

What lens did you get in the kit, 18-55?, if so I would recommend the 55-200VR maybe, the 18-135 is pretty hard to hand hold when zoomed out all the way.
