I have almost decided on the Nikon D40 instead of the D40x and plan to buy a better lens with the extra money. Though I wanted to buy the Nikon 18-200mm VR, it's way too expensive (over $750). Apart from that I saw the Nikon 55-200mm VR for about $250. Is it worth buying? and what is the disadvantage of having an add on lens? There's also the new Sigma 18-200mm OS which is cheaper than the Nikon but I don't know if it will work with the D40 since it dosen't have an inbuilt auto focus motor. Do you recommend any other lenses which I could invest in?

The Sigma 18-200mm OS lens does not have HSM (Hypersonic Motor) Focusing, which is similar to Nikon's AF-S (Silent Wave Motor) focusing. So, you would not have Autofocus with it on a D40 or D40x.

You may get better responses in our Nikon Lenses Forum. So, I've moved this thread there for you.
