Any comments on the above lens, good or bad? I'm looking for an upgrade to my D40 kit lens and am in need of a fast lens for low light photography. I eventually plan to save up and compliment this with a 70-200 f/2.8 AF-S VR. I'm aware this won't autofocus on the D40, but I figure it'll make me work on my manual focas technique :-). Just wondering if this would be a good buy with about a $300 budget.

The big issue you'll face is lack of wide end focal lengths. Because of the crop factor, you'll have a field of view of 52-105. If you shoot much indoors or do any landscape shots, this lens won't help you much.
