Default Nikon Nikkor 28mm f/2 & 80-200mm f/4 AIS

Hello everyone from the UK.

My father has left me a Nikon FM2 35mm SLR camera with a Nikon Nikkor 28mm f/2 (instruction manual dated 81.9.C &-1N) and a Zoom-Nikkor 80-200mm f/4 (instruction manual dated 81.11.BO &-2N). All 3 were purchased new in New York in the 1980's and are, I believe, Ai-s.

None have seen much use. I cannot see any evidence of them being auto focus (they don't have the Nikon screw head).

I understand that they are very good lenses but are they of use to me now?

I would like to buy a DSLR having used a Panasonic Super Zoom FZ3 for the last 4/5 years. I have a number of questions.

1. Which of the current DSLR bodies (hopefully not the most expensive) would work with these lenses if I accept manual focus?

2. Would the manual focus appear through the viewfinder as it does with the FM2 body?

3. Would the camera metering still work the lens aperture?

4. Would they still be the focal length they state or would a multiplier take effect?

As an alternative do they have any value?

Thank you for any help.

The Ken Rockwell web site has a table as to how compatible the various Nikkor lenses are with the current dSLR bodies: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/compatibility-lens.htm

The answers to your four questions will vary according to the dSLR model chosen. There would be a 1.5x multiplier if you choose a DX type body and no multiplier with an FX body.
