I am looking into purchasing a set of 3 extension tubes equalling 6cm of total length to use on a nikon D-100. I understand that I will have to shoot in manual mode, my question is--- What will this do to the focal length of a nikon 70-300mm f4-5.6G af lens? Or would it work with a promaster 28-80mm lens?

I'm really wanting to know if this will greatly increase my range, or if it will cause more problems. Also what kind of havoc is it going to create with apeture?

This is simply an add on question to the above but for me. I have seen lots of macro work using an extension tube. Please. . .what exactly do extension tubes do?

Thank you, Suzan
