i am looking for a 2 lens combo. for the wide zoom i am debating between nikon's 24-85 AFS and sigma's EX or tamron 28-75 XR Di. for the tele zoom i am torn between the 80-200/2.8 ED and sigma's 70-200/2.8 HSM.

areas i am considering:

sharpness, CA, disortion and speed (in that order).

I am told that the sigma 24-70/2.8 EX needs to be stepped down to F/4 to give the same resutls as the nikon. true? false?

does nikon make a wide zoom that uses 77mm glass? right now the only combo that can share filters is the sigma 24-60/2.8 and the sigma 70-200 HSM. (77mm).
