in an independent objective test by photodo.com there was very little difference, (with a weighted mtf of .85 for50mm and .82 for the70-200)... that is very impressive that the sigma can come that very close, with it being a zoom and a tele vs a normal prime..

however, you realize you are comparing apples to oranges here.. and for the cheap price of the 50 1.8, why not both?
