I use my new 24mm 2.8D AF on my D70 most of the time now. The 18-70mm sits in the drawer.

I grew up with an 'F' with no meter and a 35mm prime. For 20+ years I got great pictures.

A 24mm on a D70 is just like that old 'F'. (24 x 1.5 = 36)

Results are super sharp pictures, a bright viewfinder, a lighter/smaller handy camera, and instant auto focus---great travel lens.

I crop in photoshop for a 'zoom' function, and since the quality of the glass is so good, my crops have better resolution than a zoom lens at full frame.

The new D50 with a 24mm would be a super package!

pic below is 1/3 of full frame, cropped, and onlly 53 kbytes!, can your zoom get it that clear?

I had one of these in my old Nikon film kit. Yes, great lens.
