I'm considering purchasing the Nikon D50 along with Nikon AF-S DX 18-70mm lens. I'm also looking for a second telephoto zoom lens that will provide high quality pics which will be mostly for outdoor wildlife and my daughters playing sports. I was wondering how much of AF speed difference is there between the AF-S VR 70-200 and the AF 80-200 lens? Is the $900 (Canadian) difference worth it between these two lenses?

I assume you mean the 80-200 f/2.8 non AF-S. Not only will it be faster focusing on your D50, but the VR would come in handy to stabilize low light shots, or help you track better a moving subject - doesn't mean your shot will be perfectly in focus though, VR helps you see your subject which would otherwise be shaky in the viewfinder.
