I just bought a Tamron AF 28-300 XR lens on Ebay and didn't notice that it is not a Di. I just moved up to a DSLR from a Canon S1 IS.

I wish I found this forum prior to clicking BuyitNow; I guess that's the reward for my impatience.

My intentions were to replace the 28-80mm lens that came with the D50 kit with one lens that will meet most of my needs (toddler photos indoor/outdoor with some wildlife and future sports photos).

My question, what are the differences between the lens I bought (it is returnable) and the Di version?

Thanks for your help!

Tamron Di lenses should have less vignetting, flares and ghosting than the non Di versions.
I doubt that the differences are huge, it may be impossible to see a difference between Di and non Di with naked eye.
If you get pleasing results with the lens there is no reason to switch it to nearly identical model.

Thats the lens im useing with my D50 and I really like it. Covers all the focal lengths I need just about all of the time and my pictures turn out great. Im thinking the di are made just for digital cameras and the other one you could use for a film camera to if you wanted. You might want to find out if on a di lens if it doesnt have the 1.5 conversion factor. Haveing that is pretty nice. Makes it like a 450mm zoom.

Tamron Di is optimized for digital cameras.
Tamron Di II is made for (cropped)digital cameras and will vignette in FF camera.

Focal length markings are always presented in "35mm" format.
