His price is higher than a new lens shipped from a reputable mail order dealer such as www.adorama.com or bhphotovideo.com. If you are talking the nikkor 18-55 it is far superior than the other two. I purchased my D50 with the Tamron 70-300 and Nikkor 28-80. I have since purchased the Tamron 18-200, and find I am using that almost exclusively. The Sigma version is also recommended by many. You might want to consider the 18-200, and if you really need the reach, save up for the 135-400 or 170-500. I find I only use the 70-300 when I want to go 300mm for nature shots. The 18-200 handles most nature situations, and does a nice job a the wide end for landscapes, with plenty of room for portraits in between. It is very compact compared to the 70-300. The 18-200 also focuses faster than the 70-300 kit lens.
