Ok.. I own a 50mm/1.8D now. Thanks for your opinions and I am happy with it. It works well for portraits and to get sharp images. The only problem I see is with indoor pictures. I would like to get a bit more wider images. Is Nikon AF NIKKOR 28mm 1:2.8 a good lens?

It's good, (but not as good as the 50, but better than most zooms). It will provide a more useful focal length indoors, but if you have one of the zooms (the 18-55 or 18-70) the lens is a bit redundant. Proper use of flash will allow you to use the zooms even at low light levels. If you can't use flash, the extra stop does help.
