Default 3100 Install problems

I'm having some problems installing my Nikon 3100.

The installation of Nikon View goes OK, but when the camera is plugged in to the USB and turned on, Windows picks its up as new hardware, but will not find the driver.

When I point it directly to the driver, it tells me that the inf file I have specified contains now data about my hardware.
I've tried running it in both PTP mode and Mass storage, to no avail.

Can anyone help?

You can save your self a LOT of trouble by getting a flash card reader, and dont hook up the camera to your pc. Over 85% of people with digacams dont use the soft ware to get the pix into the pc. I use a compact flash card reader. You can buy one for about $10.00 or less.Tealblue
