Default A nikon cam for professional portraits..somebody help me!!

I have started my own publishing business for which i need to take multiple portrait images. I have done this for one year using the Sony f707. The images look great when my books are printed via conventional offset.

However, prints as small as 8x10 in. look horrible once i get them from the lab. I have shot all images 2560 x 1920 jpg. Can you tell me whether i need to get a better camera...or is the lab simply messing up...Also..is there a printer i can use to give me great quality prints.

A Canon i950 Photo Printer might do the job. Check out Steve's review of it:

I use the Canon S9000 for my clients. I use 2560x1920 (RAW / JPG)
and 13x19 prints look every bit as good if not better than a photo lab result.

The best benefit of making your own prints is cropping and of course color correction, if needed.
