Default Action Shots with the 5700

I am considering buying a 5700. I was wondering how the 5700 does with action shots. For example, capturing a top fuel dragster leaving the start line or a stills during a wrestling match. Will the 5700 capture clear images?

Default Action shots with 5700

The 5700 is OK for predictable action, once you master the technique of the halfway press to lock focus and meter. Then the shutter release is almost as fast as with a camera. Below is the setting combination that works best for me for action shots.

1. Get out of the "A" mode, which allows no setting changes, and use user sets 1, 2, or 3.
2. Switch autofocus from Continuous to Single.
3. Change focus area to Manual.
4. Change meter to Spot.
5. Change metering from Program to Aperture or Shutter priority and change to the appropriate setting as necessary, probably a higher shutter speed for a drag racer.
6. Again...prefocus and premeter with the shutter halfway pressed.
7. If you want to be certain of getting the shot, remember to take it before the racers get the green light!

As the previous post mentioned, low light or low contrast is a focus issue for the 5700. There have even been petitions sent to Nikon about that problem, with no help forthcoming.
