Default Nikon Coolpix 5700 - image whitening

Hi all,

My camera might have developed an issue....or it might be me not understanding the camera!

It's only happened from this morning - while my wife was using the camera.

The images in good light come out white, like the camera is letting in too much light. But then, outside in good light, the flash opens and fires

In low light it works fine. The flash fires and the images look good. However in good light they're bad. I've attached a typical example.

It's normally in auto mode, but I've played around with white balance to see if that affects it and it made no difference.

Any ideas on settings I could try to eliminate this?

Also, I think the wife left it in the conservatory last night - and it got cold in there.....could that have damaged it? It wouldn't have dropped below 5 degrees i reckon.
