Default Nikon 4500 Product shoot

Hello, I'm hoping someone can share a little expertise. After much deliberation I purchased a Nikon Coolpix 4500 and love it.
Iím using it for indoor close product shots only. It's excellent for super close macro shooting, but after two months of practice I cannot take a decent semi-close product shot. They all seem one dimensional, flat, soft and lifeless. Iíve adjusted aperture, shutter speeds, light, white balance, ISO, sharpness and exposure comp. Iíve tried using a soft box and without.
I know this camera has the capability so if anyone has any suggestions/ setting/ ideas ?? Iíd REALLY appreciate it. The items that I'm shooting are a range of ceramic / glass vases, art artifacts, figurines, dishes, and the like.

Hi Megan.

I think you have to post some shots to show what you mean!
