Can anybody recommend me a place in Canada to shop for Nikon products? Particularly interested in low prices  - I'm still a student and want to enter the SLR scene.

Don't know where you are. Around Toronto there is mainly

DownTown camera

There are others like Aden and 8-elm but I've never bought from them. Most will give a studend discount if you have your student card with you.

Henry's has a web site:

You can check out the prices. And in each item it
tells you which stores it is in stock with.

Default Buying in Canada

Maritz - Most of the top Canadian camera stores sell their products on e-Bay and offer cheaper prices that you can buy in the store. The downside is the shipping/handling/insurance costs which you really have to watch. One retailer in Ottawa charges you even if you pick up the merchandise at their store. I suggest you stay away from the 'delayed rebate program'. Taxes are another concern.

You can sometimes get a great deal from a hobbyist who is trading up to better equipment. There are no taxes and shipping is flexible. If the equipment is electronic find out from the seller how old it is, if it was purchased in Canada from an authourized Nikon dealer, and if it's still under warranty.

I found some good buys at Camera Canada.com website which also has a 1 800 number.

Vistek is in Calgary as well as Toronto.

If you buy out of province or from Alberta, the savings in PST often offset or more the shipping costs.

I've (on occasion) been able to chat my way out of shipping costs withsome out-of Province dealers!
