Default Nikon 8700 Blow Ups

After way too many debates, I had a friend of mine who runs a pro color darkroom take my 8700 files, pick one, and blow it up, up, and away. He used my JPEG fine rather than my TIFF images, although he couldn't see much difference between the two.

He started with a 5x7, but made quality enlargements up to and including the 20x30. I haven't seen the results, but my eyes are less critical than his, and he's happy with the enlargements.

BTW, he also took a file from a D100 up all the way and said that it looked "really good". I guess there's something to less pixels but more CCD area.

Although I found that I hit those 4 buttons on the side of the lens too often (leading to image issues), the 8700 seems to be a good camera for a pro-sumer who can manage to keep his/her fingers away from the little buttons. I couldn't and that's the main reason I have to take a pass on the 8700.
