Default D1x flash photography

I just bought a Nikon D1x together with a flash SB28DX. Using for a long time f100/SB28 i am suprised that the flash photography (specially fill-in flash) works so much worse than im used to with the analog combination.
Can anyone tell me if i do something wrong or is there a way to let it work like my F100/SB28??

thanks in advance

It should work the same way as the F100 and the SB28, can you tell me what mode you were shooting and what's the outcome ? The SB28 should give you the same same 3D multi sensor flash meeting as the F100, and since the D1X use the same camera body as the F5, you should get result or better than the F100 and SB28 combine...I'm very supprise to hear about your problem...
