Howdy All! I have a problem that hopefully someone can help me with. I am an amateur photographer and like taking pictures for a hobby. I pretty much take my 8700 everywhere I go. Outside in the daylight, it will take the most phenomenal pictures, but when I use it indoors, the pictures usually come out either way too day or so super bright that the subject is hard to make out.

I figured I would get an external speedlight to see if this would help and I purchased a Nikon SB-800. I knew that a lot of the more advanced features would not be available, but figured I would upgrade the camera to a DSLR and it would (hopefully) be compatible with one.

I'm using the full auto mode to start out with, thinking that...well it would do everything and I'd get a decent picture. No go. My subjects are usually about 5-10 ft from me and they come out pretty bright.

Does anyone have any pointers using this awesome flash with my Coolpix?
