Default Focus Assistance on CP5700

I've read several postings in this forum about the weakness of the Coolpix 5700 in low light conditions and that some people try to surround this by using a small laser pointer to assist focussing. OK that's a possibility, although not usable when taking photos of people.

I just wonder why Nikon did not manage to use the focus assist light on their flashes! I have a SB-24 which a have used for years with my F-801 and it performs well, except the focus assistance...

What can be the reason for this lack? Is there a chance that sometime a Firmware upgrade might help??

I have been holding off getting an external flash with the hopes a firmware upgrade will fix this problem.

Default havent found it a big problem

First of all I dont take pictures of people in the dark. The build in flash is awful, so I find I frequestly take pictures of people inside by a window or a door. It gives good light and works well.
