For those of you interested in the shutter life of you e300, the following is from the olympus agents/repairers here in New Zealand:

"there is no definitive number for the E-300 in terms of its shutter life.

Needless to say there would be very few people who could wear it out."

Not exactly a reassuring statment when read in forums of shutters failing between 30,000 and 60,000 cycles.

There is no reason why the E-300 will not last until you simply want a more technically advanced camera other than user abuse or simply getting a lemon body...something that's a possibilitywith any camera ever made. No one can tell you how long a digital SLR will last in terms of shutter cycles any more than someone can difinitively say how longevery inkjet print will last. They've done tests on both and can give you best guess estimates. Take those numbers for what they're worth, as a guess only.

...based on Olympus' testing and experience.

I'm sure that it's good for at least 50,000 and perhaps 100,000 shutter cycles. And considering that a casual user of a DSLR would be unlikely to use the same digital camera for more than 5 years, and a serious user would be unlikely to use it as their main camera for more than 3 years, that should be more than sufficient.

Only a working pro would really have any chance of putting more than 20,000 shots a year on a DSLR.
