Borrowed a Sunpak S383 flash from a friend of mine for a couple of days. Can't understand the features of the flash... Can I shoot in "p" mode with this flash? (The shutter speed seems to be tooo long). Do I have to "turn on' the exy. flash option in the camera??

No you can't...because this flash isn't a TTL flash the camera doesn't know of its existence...your friend should have given you the heads up on how to use this flash.

How to set the camera for this type of flash is described on page 60 (Using Commercially Available FLashes), and page 61 (Non-Specified Commercial Flashes).
