In my limited experience, the great advantage to RAW is you can get a bit more dynamic range out of the pcture. However, RAW can take a long time..so......

I've had good success lowering the in camera contrast to try and avoid blown highlights and I also reduce in camera sharpness and let Paint Shop Pro take care of it. Works well for me. And it's quick...

I've done 20"X30" enlargements from some of my photos and they come out very nice using these settings.

Just my humble opinion....
