I have a 510 with a 18-180 Oly zoom - a very capable and portable solution. (The best camera is the one you take with you)

Is the 18-180 compatible with the new auto-focussing system on the 620 or e-30?

If you're referring to the new Hybrid Auto-Focus feature found in the E-30 and the E-620 when using Live view, the best article I've found in explaining this is written by John Foster at BIOFOS.

Here's a link to his article.

There are actually two focus systems. The old is phase detection, which your old camera uses, as well as the the new camera.

The second method is contrast detection AF which I believe is a live view only system. Not many lenses support this new focus system, including your 18-180.

For a complete list:

There is a column labeled "CD" and those few are the ones that support the contrast detection AF.
