Default Chinese New Year 2013

A few pics from the Chinese New Year this weekend. It was a miserable and wet day and I did think of not going into town simply to get wet but I eventually went.

Glad of Oly's weather sealing as everyone else seemed to have bags or towels wrapped around their lenses. Unusually I bumped into someone shooting with an E5 + 12-60 which was a first!

All pics with the E3 + 35-100F2, RAW to Jpeg in LR4. Shooting wide open at F2.2 or 2.5

1. The cats whiskers

2. Step aside ..Its getting cold and wet

3. A Happy year of the snake

4. Did I mention it was wet

5. Snapz

6. Time for a snack

8. The main attraction... the Lion Dance and Happy Bhudda... Too many people around even in the rain to get a good snap of the lion and when I did the AF wasn't up to snuff

Very nice series Harj. More photo-journalist quality in the whole set.
(I'm partial to the detail, compositon, and colors in shot #1.)

Great fun to see these, Harj. I must admit I've never seen a snake quite like #3.

The last one really captured my eye.

Guys thanks for the comments on the pics although I'm still pretty disappointed at what I managed to shoot... simply too cold and wet for people to just relax and enjoy the day.

Ted, I like the last pic as well and thought the focus was nailed onto the guys eyes but its just not quiet.

The beastie isn't quiet right for a street shooters lens, just a little too big and possibly intimidating but its too difficult to not to use.

It confirms my feeling that I just don't have a good eye for street shooting - I don't think I would have seen that opportunity for a good shot.
