Default Pelican food fight

I was walking at a park on a bay which also has one of the local boat ramps. I noticed a large group of pelicans lazily swimming around the water very near the shore. In a few minutes I found out why they were there, when one of the many small boats came into the boat ramp, getting ready to be pulled out of the water. The pelicans all swam to the boat because the unused bait fish is thrown to them by the boaters.

The pelicans really came to life trying to beat each other to the fish.

Nice photo - you really nailed the focus on that one pelican eyeing that fish in the air!

Very nice Steven. You didn't instigate this little food fight did you?

They are quite competitive, given the tiny reward.

Thank you Robert and James.

I didn't instigate the food fight, but the fishermen on the boat either did not have a productive day, or they had too many bait fish to begin with. They kept throwing lots of scoopfuls of little baitfish out to the pelicans. I think all of the birds got their share of fish.
