Default The baby Herons have now hatched.

Continuing the Heron nest watch, I recently returned to find 3 little fuzzy chicks hiding in the nest.

(For those who have not seen the original postings they are:
Tri-colored Herons nest building

Heron nest update for June 13, 2014

I could only see the top of some fuzzy feathers most of the time, but once in a while one or two would pop their head up briefly, and I got a few shots. They are covered in brown fuzzy feathers now, but as they grow the feathers will turn bright white. They will not get their colors until they mature into an adult.

Thanks for looking and commenting Fred, Ted, and Lordje. I'm looking forward to going back later to check on their growth.

As a side note, not far from this nest, I also found other nests where the chicks are much older, bigger and are already solid white.
