Default Timing Is Everything

Including going to the beach when a tropical storm is offshore. That would be Hermine last week, when we had a vacation house already rented for a week. Fortunately it had moved far enough offshore that it didn't produce rain just cloudy weather, big waves, and dangerous rip currents. Still, a bad day at the beach is better than a good day at the office. And a good photo opportunity:

To be honest, this post is OT since the camera wasn't an Oly. For various reasons I took my grab-and-go camera which is a Panny Lumix DMC-FZ300. Even though it's a 1/2.3″ sensor, what I like about it is the Leica glass it uses - 25mm to 600mm eq. f/2.8 to f/8. Not too bad if I'm not able to lug around my E5 system.

A spectacular capture. I think your vantage point is better than that of the man on the beach, somewhere I wouldn't want to be looking at what's approaching.

I also have a little Lumix, a DMC-TZ70 (ZS50 in the US), which I can just pop into my pocket. Much as I love my Olympus gear, it's not something I want to lug around on the off chance of taking the odd photograph.

Thanks! We were on the 14th floor of a condominium building so it was a good vantage point.

I have 3 Leica 4/3 lenses for the E-5, that I really love. I have too much invested in 4/3 glass to switch to 4/3.

Hi Ted: Awsome looking waves that you captured! Sorry that the weather was not the best for a beach vacation. But you are so right that a bad day at the beach beats a good day at the office. And t is always good to see you posting, no matter which camera. You need to post more often.

(P.S. -tropical storm Hermine came up the Gulf of Mexico and brushed by the Tampa area before heading up the Atlantic seaboard. No damage at my house, but we did get some heavy wind and rain. But after it passed by, the weather turned nice again.
