Personally, I dont get why anyone would go for it, but...
...this outfit has the Evolt-500 for $1200.


is the 18-80mm lens they are offering as a kit better than the standard kit lenses:
14-45mm f3.5-5.6 & 40-150mm f3.5 for $700

why pay more and get less?

Probably because it's a typo...there's no such thing as an 18-80mm...it should be an 18-180mm 3.5-6.3 (at least there is such a lens). The only other lenses that start with 18mm is the Sigma 18-125mm, and the two Sigma 18-50mm lenses:
