Default Better video through window glass?

I first noticed such a thing on my cheap Ativa (rebranded Toshiba) 1080p camcorder: if I shoot a video through a (glass) window in my house, the video looks more clear! Yesterday I shoot some video through my car's window with EPL1, I too noticed more clear image. Why? Maybe I should use a lens protector on my EPL1?

In the car, the side windows make the good difference, the front windshield does not (worse).
