Default OM-D E-M10 motorsport panning

Had a play with the E-M10 as well at the Supercars. Here's a panning shot at 1/80 with C-AF (taken at corner one very high speed 200kmh/124mph). Shame the contrast detect C-AF isn't up to it, very low strike rate better of with old school MF (pre focus on a point on the track). Would be nice if Olympus gave the next E-M10 model phase detect AF to improve the C-AF this would make it a fantastic all round entry level OM-D camera.

I need to get better versed in the different AF modes. I almost always just do the old-school "Half-click to lock focus" and pray if the object's moving.

Olympus should add Phase-detect AF ability to some extent both at the E-M10 and E-M5 levels. They could reduce the number of AF points to continue differentiating them from the upper-end model. To leave them off is just hurting their position in those price-points.

Your workaround looks to be a good one though. Very nice.

Totally agree with you Greg, The E-M10 & E-M5 both should get Phase Detect AF maybe the same or similar performance as the E-M1 (or even sensor). This would make the E-M10 series an excellent entry level for new or hobbyist users. It could also attract new users to the system by having more complete all-round cameras.
I don't think this would take anything away from E-M1 II sales at it is a totally different beast aimed at the advanced/professional user and a new user or hobbyist is not generally going to be spending that kind of money on a camera.
