I can't find the cable for our C765.
Is it possible to update the firmware from the xD card? IE: burn firmware to card and then run it from the card. TIA |

Yes, I did all my firmware updates for my C8080 by downloading to the computer, then copying to the card, then using the card to update the camera. The C765 should be similiar. Just as an example; here is a copy of the C8080 procedure:
"How To Update Firmware C8080 1. Download firmware v757-78 http://users.adelphia.net/~ociepka/firmware.bin 2. Use an xD-Picture Card or CF card formatted on C-8080Wide Zoom. Create a folder "Firmware" on the card and save the firmware.bin file to the Firmware folder. 3. Use an AC adapter to power the camera or a freshly charged battery pack. Insert the card with the firmware into the C-8080 and turn the camera on in play mode. 4. The monitor will show current firmware version and inquiry of firmware rewriting. Then select "YES" ("Yes" will be green) and press "OK", rewriting of firmware will start automatically. If you decide not to update the firmware simply turn off the camera. 5. During the rewriting of firmware "EXCHANGING" is displayed on monitor. It will take about 1.5 minutes to complete. Please do not operate any key or turn off the power. It might damage the camera and firmware. 6. When the rewriting is done the monitor will show the latest firmware for a spit second and the camera will shut down. 7. Format the card in other than the playback mode." Simple procedure as you can see. You need to do an Internet search for the C765 users forums to get specific instructions for your camera. Good luck. oldsmoboat, yes this is the best procedure for firmware update. I own C740UZ and have updated firmware this way. Take care to find the exact firmware for you camera. On Olympus site the firmware looks different - .EXE file. You have to use special software (resourse editor) to extract the firmware.bin from the .EXE file. If you have problems (after finding the exact .EXE) don't hesitate to write here in the forum, I can help you with the extraction of the .BIN file.
