Default help: Camera won't power up

My OLY D40 Zoom no longer powers up. Problem started when I recorded a motion video clip and the camera got stuck writing the clip to the smart media card. The batteries were fully charged and the card was blank, but the write procedure continued for several minutes. The camera would not power off, so I ejected the batteries. Now the camera won't respond at all...from sliding the lens cover open (which is how to turn the camera on in picture taking mode) or pressing the playback button or the menu button. I tried replacing the smart media card, but still no workee. Since I can't get to the menu to try a camera reset, Olympus says I will have to send it in. I was hoping someone here might know a trick or two.
