Olympus SP Long Zoom Gallery

Hi there-

I was just wondering if anyone is interesting is setting up a gallery in this thread to feature photos taken with Olympus SP-550, 560, 565, and 590 cameras.

We can swap photo hints and ideas with a goal of improving the photos from our cameras.

I will be happy to begin with a hand held photo that I took of my husband this evening using my SP-560 camera. The Mode Selector was set to Programed Auto, the ISO to 400, without flash. The camera selected F 4.5 at 1/13th of a second for the exposure.

Here is the second photo taken 26 minutes later. The only difference was that I placed the SP-560 on a tripod to see if there would be an improvement in image quality. And I think that we can fairly say that yes the image quality and sharpness of the photo was improved by using the tripod.

Here is the setup: Camera on Programed Auto Mode, ISO 400, camera on tripod. The camera selected F 4.2 at 1/13th of a second. The aperture increased a small amount reflecting the decreasing light levels in our Family Room.

I'll be posting a few, Sarah Joyce. I just purchased the SP590. I got a chance to fondle 3 of the 4 cameras I was planning on replacing the P-90 with: Kodak Z980, SP590, Canon SX10. I wanted to check out the Panasonic FZ35 but couldn't find one. Being a former SP570 owner, I was duly impressed with the SP590's improvements in many areas over the SP570. While I liked the Z980, I liked the SP570 more and at $319 from Adorama, I struck whilst the iron was hot. I should have it by Tuesday.

Isn't it interesting that we did exactly the same thing!

I also have an Olympus SP-590 enroute to me as well. After working with the SP-560 and being once again impressed, I checked the SP-590 and it seemed like they had addressed the important issues. So I gritted my teeth and made the purchase.

I am looking for it to arrive at the end of next week.

COOL! Mine is due to arrive on Tuesday from Adorama. At $319 (shipped), I found it impossible to resist. I have my P-90 up on Craigslist and should get a little more than the cost of the SP590 to recoup my purchase.

Just received! Yup... this is a faithful color duplication of the real thing. Shot in macro and Super Macro (God, I missed that from my SP570!). The P-90 sold very quickly for my asking price of $385. What's not to like?







These two were taken indoors using the onboard flash and diffuser. I'll have to dig out my slave flash unit! They still came out rather flat but, not TOO bad.

I'm very pleased with it. I would have more photos but it came just as the sun was going down.

I'm sure you'll really enjoy it.
