Default Olympus C750 HELP

I recently purchased an Olympus C750. I got this model because my father owns a C720 and I loved the quality and zoom. My problem is when I try and take a picture in not so bright light, the focus time seems extreme. My father's 720 takes about 1/3 the time, because it doesn't go through the multi-metering exposure. I have found the menu item to turn it off and have done so, but it still trys different exposures (LCD gets dark, then lightens up through several stages) when focusing. Is there any other way to turn this off, or is this a great feature that I'm not aware of? This makes it very difficult when trying to catch a photo that is not planned.

I also own a C-750 for about a month and I think the camera is great.
You have an option in the at the Mode Menu->Camera called Fulltime AF, that makes focus automatically adn all the time! It makes your job difficult sometimes and "kills" your batteries in a minute. I sugest you to disable Fulltime AF. I suggest you to check also the manual so you know what AF mode to use iESP or Spot.
I hope it helps!
Love, Andrea

Well, the half-press method I am describing won't help for a photo that isn't planned, but you need to know that pre-focusing by pressing the shutter release button halfway down and holding it there until ready to take the picture is a great way to greatly reduce shutter lag (Deiota already gave you excellent advice to disable full-time autofocus).
