Default external flash

So I'm thinking of getting a C-750 UZI camera, but one of its shortcomings is that it doesn't have an auto-focus assist light for low light conditions. No probs I thought, as Steve's review says, you can combine it with an FL-40 flash and use the light on the flash. So I priced an Olympus FL-40 flash, and I don't know about in the US, but here it has a list price which is more than the C-750 itself Anyway, are there any generic flash alternatives which might provide the same auto-focus assist functionality for the C-750?
