Hi, Just bought a Oly C-765 to replace my old Kodak DC240 1.3MP!Have I made a good choice?

I spent a couple of weeks reading up and ended up with a couple of choices around my budget. Basically I wanted a good 3 to 4 MP camera that has a good zoom for sports (motor racing etc..) and general family use.

After reading up I had pretty much decided on the Fuji S5000 until I saw the purple fringing and vignetting from the lense. I'm new to "proper" photography and want to learn about all the settings etc... hopefully to make it a bit of a hobby.

So, it arrived this morning. Looks nice and is really small considering the lens. Anyone here have a 765 or 770, I understand they both use the same lens? Is thi a good choice for me to learn the ropes?

Also, if anyone has any galleries taken with the 765/770 I'd appreciate a link to see what can be done with it.

There are pluses and minuses to every camera. Whether or not it's a good choice depends all on what you want to do with it, and it's too late now to decide that since you already bought the camera! For instance, there are better low light cameras, but they don't have the 10x zoom. There's others that cost more, some have more features (like a flash hotshoe).

But anyways, like the other C-7x0 cameras the C-765 is a good camera with great image quality. It's not a fast action camera, nor is it a night camera.

I've owned my C-700 for almost two years now, and I'm still happy with it.

Many thanks, I'll check out those links. Can't be worse than my old Kodak. It's served me well but I feel the time is right to move on!

Yup. After just a couple days ownership, I have these photos at http://www.mtnlover.smugmug.com - see Crater Lk in the Landscape section.
