Default E100rs Sequential Mode with Flash

I know that the internal flash is disabled when sequencial shooting is selected. But the manual was unclear (to me) on using an external flash in this situation. I know I won't try an F40 flash (too expensive for me ), but I'm looking for a vivitar 285hv and plan on using a CB04 cable. Before I go to the trouble and expense, I would like to know the limitations I'm facing. I want to take pictures of my kids at indoor sporting events this winter. (basketball and Gymnastics), Even 3 or 5 fps would be better than signle for me.

thanks for all who respond.
