While waiting for my FL-50 to arrive, I've beenlooking for settings that will minimise shutter lag when using flash, I discovered something rather odd..

1) Disable the flash
2) Select manual focus
3) Select a short manual exposure.
4) Press the shutter button whilst pointing at a well lit scene.
5) Repeat with the lens cap on.

What I found was a delay of up to 2 seconds in the first half press, when the scene is very dark ( i.e. at night), in average lighting there is very little delay.

What I don't understand is, with everything set to manual, what is the camera doing in those 2 seconds?

Are you saying a 2 second delay with the first half press in low light, or full press (your sequence of events doesn't say "half press", AND with your instructions it says the first one should be done in "a well lit scene").

Start over with the EXACT settings you've used. Also post the Exif information from both pictures so we can see what's going on.
