I have a C-755 (essentially a black 750) with a Raynox lens tube (52mm front thread), and a number of 52mm accessories. I just got a TCON-17 (55mm rear thread), because my research shows it is sharper than the Raynox 1850, and I got a good scuffed box price on it.

I know that the mounting distance for wide angle converters is very critical. Moving it forward or backward a few millimeters with step rings can have a HUGE effect on edge sharpness.

Is it the same with Teleconverters?
Will a 52-55 step-up ring on my Raynox tube produce as good an image as getting a CLA-4 lens tube for it?

No one ever talks about the sharpness issue...most people worry about vignetting.

Suggest you spend just a few bucks on an inexpensive ring and try it.
