I believe the lens on the C2100UZI and the C770/765UZ are different lenses.

The C2100 lens seems to be longer and the minimum focal length starts at 7mm while the C770 starts at 6.3mm. The aperture range is also different f/2.8-3.5 vs f/2.8-3.7.

This may seem only a small difference but then in optics every 0.1 mm (or less) matters especially when we are talking about a small focusing plane.

If the 770 successor is to have a 1/1.8 sensor, the body size may still have the same dimension of the current model but will need a bigger lens, similar to the 2100 (bigger if including IS).

Image stabilization alone will require a considerably larger body; you forget miniaturization in the years since the 2100's introduction has alsoallowed for a smaller body.

anyone has any updates on this topic?

i want to by a c770, but however it looks rather old compared to other ultra-zoom digicams released recently. so im unsure if i should wait for a successor to the c770, or not.

I don't understand why it would take a bigger lens to move for a higher sensor from 1/2.5 size to say 1/1.8 size for a 10x zoom. The C2100, I presume had the same zoom lens with the C750 or the C770 but it has a 1/1.8 sensor. The body of the C2100 is of course bigger that the C750 or the C770.
The C-2100 was made with a Canon IS lens, it has nothing in common with the C-7xx lenses. What they do share is color quality.
