I have an old Canon C-8 Wide Attachment, which I think came from a
Canon video camera. It has a 67mm thread and a 58mm - 67mm Canon step-
up ring so I can attach it directly to the front of my 8080. As it is
called a C-8 attachment I guess it is x0.8 and therefore gives an
approximate focal length (in 35mm terms) of 22mm. This seems about
right although it renders all straight lines curved, such as the
horizon. It's use is therefore limited to dramatic shots. However,
the step-up ring that I am using it with is quite thick and
vignetting is just visible. Cropping it out once the picture has been
taken partly defeats the object of the extra wide angle effect. It is
the 67mm part of the ring that is thick (approx. 6mm) whereas all the
others I have are about 3.5mm. I would like to think that a thinner
ring will postion the lense closer to the main Olympus one so that
vignetting is avoided. Does anyone have a 58mm - 67mm step-up ring
and if they do what is its thickness? Yes I know that I could pop
down to Jessops but you guys out there could save me a journey.
