I am looking into the purchase of a new digital camera. I've owned an Olympic 2020Z for many years and have been satisfied with it.

I'd like to upgrade, but with a camera that's not too small and that is relatively easy to use. I would like a 3x zoom.

After reading Steve's comments on the SP310, I am quite concerned about battery length. My 2020Z takes about 80 pics before needing a recharge. (I usually use the viewfiender).

Any suggestions on alternative digitals in the SP310 price-range?

The SP-310 has already been upgraded to the SP-320. Take a look at it. The battery problem you mention was corrected by a software patch. Make sure your camera has firmware version 1.3 and you should not have any battery problems.
