We bought this camera for my son for his birthday last month. Nice starting point for him as he had outgrown a point and shoot with no options for manual settings.

Problem: He attached a "screw-on" monopod to it a few days ago and something wasn't right. Perhaps it cross-threaded or maybe the monopod screw was not in great condition anymore....not sure. End result was that it could not be removed...would not unscrew. While he was trying to spin the screw out, somehow in the hands of a teen, the plastic body pulled away from the tiny screws that hold the bottom of the camera body together. A crack in the plastic also ran across the center bottom of the camera.

Confusing sounding even as I write this.

Would this be a warranty issue? Or does attaching an "accessory" void it?

I notice two tiny screws holding in what appears to be a separate plastic , mounting device (female side) Could this be replaced easily? Could I find a part and do it myself?

Camera is still working perfectly although he's bummed because he really uses that monopod, tripod option while taking photos of his friends and I'm afraid that the camera body will break open entirely now if any stress is put on that crack.

If we were able to replace the threaded mount part, given that the crack in the body would still be there...would a "quick-release" mount be less stress on the body, or would that central mount screwed into the middle of the camera still stress the crack?

Soooooo many questions....sorry. Any help or suggestions is welcome. I'll also be taking it to a shop to ask the same things but can't do it till Monday. So I thought I'd start here!
