Default Olympus D380 SmartMedia Card

Stupid question. With the D380 can ANY media card work? Or do you have to use Olympus brand? I'm looking at AVL media card vs the Olympus brand which is twice as expensive. Thanks

Any "smart media" (no multi media) card will work. Be sure to format with camera before use, You will not be able to do panorama shots with non Olympus cards.

You will be able to do panoramas without the special card, just not automagically with the Olympus software. The extra cost of the special cards can be used to buy the software instead.

Most of the limits that folks talk about for panoramas are really limits of the software being used and/or issues that make stitching easier.

If you are interested in panoramas, take a look at http://www.panoguide.com for all kinds of info and links panoramic.

Default re: Olympus D380 SmartMedia Card

Non-Olympus smart media cards can be modified to enable the panorama mode in Olympus cameras. I have done it using information found at: http://www.geocities.com/roberthaus/pan/

But, it is nearly meaningless because it only works with the Olympus Camedia Master software.; which doesn't do that good of a "stitching" job after all.

As BillDrew said, there are better panorama stitching programs out there that don't require the Olympus Panorama Mode.
