According to the FAQ for xD cards over at Fujifilm.. Q: Why is there no write-protect feature? A:Research into other media has shown that write-protect is very rarely used. Also a greater degree of PC compatibility can be achieved by removing it. Also ifyou look at the specifications of the xD cards over at http://www.olympus-europa.com/ Then you will see for each card Write protect: No |

Good to know (no actual switch).
I thought I remembered seeing one for some reason (probably from looking at too many Secure Digital cards and Memory Sticks that have switches). lol I'd probably check the playback menu and remove any locks showing up there, too (you can lock files from being overwritten). It's more likely a defective card if formatting it doesn't solve it, though. A format should overwrite any "locks" put on files by most cameras (typically, they're just flagging files read only). But, I wouldn't rule out that Olympus is doing something unique in the partition table to control it. |

I tried this program, but it is not working. On the screen is:'' The disk cannot be written to because is it write protected. Please remove the write protection from the volume in drive.''

Then dump the card.
Not sure you can even buy new 32mb cards anymore, you can pick up a 2nd hand one for around $5-6 You should check what the max size card your camera can take and buy say a 128mb card if supported. |

I do have the same problem:
Olympus xD H 1 GB - I can format the card with my Finepix F30 but if I use a card reader both XP and VISTA do give me a write-protection error. There is no slider on the card´s side, nothing. Has anybody found a solution? |

If you put the card into your computers card reader and remove anything it shows on it and then reformat the card on the computer, It should work fine. I have done this on two of my cards. I do not know why or how it got the write protect on it , it just came up when i turned on the camera. hope this helps, it worked for me. Be sure to remove anything on the card first before you format are this will not work.
Good Luck T. |

When i reconneted the camera to my PC i can view the photos on my PC....But i cannot TAKE OR VIEW PICTURES from :?the camera. style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #000000"AND THERE IS NO SIDE BUTTON ON THE CARD... This worked for me.
1. Backup contents to a pc folder. 2. Format card from pc. (Ex. format f ![]() 3. Insert back to camera. |
